Terms of Use
This summary covers using the Arctic Home Services Inc. website and services. The full, counsel-approved terms are provided before you sign any agreement.
Pricing and what a price includes
Prices shown on the site are indicative and confirmed on your quote. Every price is all-in: the equipment, professional installation, and removal of your old unit. On a rental it also includes service and repairs, apart from the exceptions in the rental agreement (see Service and repairs in the Rental Agreement summary). HST applies on top of the prices shown. On a rental or Arctic Own, nothing is charged when you book, and your first payment is taken after the equipment is installed. Buying outright is paid in full by card at checkout.
Ways to pay
You can rent your equipment on a monthly plan, spread the purchase over 3 to 10 years at 12.99% fixed, or buy it outright. Whichever you choose, the price is all-in and professional installation is included. On the financed option, your payment, the amount financed, the rate, the annual percentage rate (APR, which is a little higher because it includes the one-time PPSA registration fee), the term, the total of payments and the full cost of borrowing are all shown together before you commit, and again in the disclosure statement you sign.
Credit checks
A rental or a financed purchase may be subject to a credit check. On a rental, you authorize it in the agreement: Arctic may ask about your credit history and may end the agreement if it is not satisfied with the result. Arctic finances its own customers directly, and there is no application fee. On a rental or a financed purchase Arctic may also register a security interest in the equipment, against you as a person, never against your home (see Security interest below).
Installation
Install dates are subject to availability and to your address passing the serviceability check, which runs before you book. You choose the date and a morning, afternoon or evening window, and we call to confirm it. If we cannot service your address we tell you before you pay anything.
If a payment is missed
A returned payment is charged $35, and overdue amounts carry interest at 1.5% a month (18% a year, an effective annual rate of 19.56%). This applies on a rental and on a financed purchase alike. Three missed monthly payments put either agreement in default, and the agreement sets out what happens next. If you know a payment is going to miss, call us first: we would far rather rearrange it than charge you for it.
Buying outright
When you buy outright you pay in full by card at checkout, installation is included, and the equipment is yours from day one. It comes with the manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. You register the warranty with the manufacturer yourself, and we give you the model and serial numbers to do it. Repairs after installation are covered by that warranty, or by Arctic Protect if you add it. The 30-day trial is on rentals only, so it does not apply to a purchase, and Arctic takes no security interest in equipment you have paid for in full.
Security interest
On a financed purchase, Arctic takes a security interest in the equipment and registers it under the Personal Property Security Act (Ontario) by a financing statement against you as a person, using your name and date of birth. Nothing is ever registered against the title to your home. Arctic discharges the registration after you have paid in full. If it ever has to be discharged and registered again, for example because your name changes, the credit agreement sets out the fee. On a rental, Arctic owns the equipment during the term and may register its interest in the same way, against you as a person and never against your title. The Arctic Protect plan registers nothing.
30-day trial on rentals
Rentals come with a 30-day risk-free trial. The 30 days run from the day your equipment is installed, not from the day you order. If it isn’t right, we’ll make it right or remove it, with no fees. Financed and outright purchases do not include a trial. The 30-day rental trial does not apply to new home installations arranged through a builder. In that case the equipment is supplied through your builder as part of the Agreement of Purchase and Sale, and the terms of that agreement apply.
Arctic Protect
Arctic Protect is an optional plan on equipment you buy, outright or financed, and is never sold with a rental, which already includes service. It costs $14.99 a month plus HST and runs for 60 months, after which billing stops. It is available on equipment 5 years old or newer. A covered repair has no call-out charge, up to $400 per service call (before HST) and up to 2 calls in any rolling 12 months; anything beyond that is quoted to you before the work is done. If you pay by credit card, a surcharge of up to 2.4% may apply, shown before you pay (credit cards only, not debit or prepaid cards, and not for Quebec cardholders). You can cancel with 30 days’ notice. At the end of the 60 months you can renew by phone or email; it does not renew online or automatically. The full terms are in the Arctic Protect agreement you accept when you add it.
