No heat, no cooling, or no hot water?
Call us and we will get you booked with a licensed professional. If the unit needs replacing, you can rent it fully serviced or finance it straight from Arctic with nothing due today, or buy it outright, and you decide which after we have looked at it.
Calls are monitored after hours and on weekends, so call whenever it happens.Office hours are monday to friday, 9am to 5pm.
Would rather not call? Leave your details and we will come back to you.
What happens when you call
- We ask what the system is doing, and run through the safe checks below with you first. Sometimes that fixes it.
- If it needs a technician, we book the soonest window that works for you.
- If it needs replacing, we tell you what it costs all in, including install, before you decide anything.
- You choose how to pay afterwards, not under pressure on the day.
Safe things to check first
These are the checks a technician would ask you about on the phone anyway, and every one is safe to do yourself. If none of them helps, stop there and call us.
No heat
- Check the thermostat is set to heat and the temperature is above the room reading. Replace the batteries if the screen is blank.
- Check the furnace switch, which looks like a light switch on or near the unit, has not been knocked off.
- Check the breaker for the furnace has not tripped.
- Check the furnace filter. A filter that is completely blocked can shut a unit down on a safety limit.
No cooling
- Check the thermostat is set to cool and the fan is on auto.
- Check both breakers, the indoor one and the outdoor one. Air conditioners usually have two.
- Check the outdoor unit is not iced up. If it is, switch the system off and let it thaw before running it again.
- Check the filter here too. Restricted airflow freezes coils.
No hot water
- On an electric tank, check the breaker.
- On a gas tank, check the gas is on to the appliance.
- Check nothing has changed the temperature dial on the front of the tank.
- If you can see water pooling around the base of the tank, switch off the water supply to it and call us. That one does not wait.
Stop and call a professional if
- You can smell gas. Leave the house first, then call your gas utility from outside.
- You can smell burning, or see scorching around the unit.
- Water is pooling around a water heater or leaking from a pipe.
- A breaker trips again straight after you reset it.
Never attempt a repair on a gas appliance, a burner, or a sealed unit yourself. In Ontario that work is restricted to licensed professionals for good reason.
